Tummy Tuck

Losing weight and giving birth can cause the skin around the stomach to droop and sag, which can negatively affect your appearance and self-esteem.

An abdominoplasty by Dr. Bernard Kopchinski removes excess skin and other tissue in the midsection, giving you a slimmer and more toned frame.

Why should you consider a tummy tuck at our San Antonio, TX plastic surgery center?

How Abdominoplasty Can Help You

Undergoing a tummy tuck has many benefits for those who are self-conscious about their appearance after weight loss or giving birth:

A More Attractive Figure

Sagging skin can bulge and alter the overall shape of your figure. A tummy tuck removes the loose skin, improving your figure and allowing you to wear clothing that fits better.

Repaired Abdominal Muscles

Patients often have loose muscles that have separated from the abdominal wall following pregnancy. A tummy tuck can repair separated muscles and incorporate liposuction to give you the fit appearance you desire.

Better Overall Physique

A tummy tuck goes beyond just improving the look of your midsection. The results can complement your entire figure for an overall improved appearance.

A Boost in Self-Confidence

Excess belly skin, stubborn fat, and other post-pregnancy and post-weight loss issues are often a source of self-consciousness and poor body image. A tummy tuck can improve your self-esteem and help you feel much better about your appearance.

How the Procedure Works The Basics of Abdominoplasty

There are many misconceptions surrounding tummy tuck surgery and why it is performed. Here are the facts about this body contouring procedure:

Performed After Weight Loss

A tummy tuck is not a weight loss surgery. It is a body contouring procedure performed after losing a significant amount of weight. It is often done after bariatric surgery, healthy lifestyle changes, or childbirth.

Tightens Tissues

Gaining weight stretches skin out, and the skin doesn't always conform following weight loss. In some cases, surgery is the only solution. It can also repair separated muscles and remove unresponsive fat deposits.

Discreet Scarring

Dr. Kopchinski takes care to place the incisions in areas that can be easily concealed by underwear and swimwear. By following his post-op instructions, you can expect scars to fade significantly after surgery.

Dr. Kopchinski and his staff are the most professional people in the business. Dr. K takes his time with each potential client to fully explain any questions you have and make you feel comfortable about any procedure. Many other doctors tend to rush you or tell you your questions can be answered from their website. He is detail oriented in his work, and his results are, therefore, phenomenal! I trust Prestige Cosmetics to take care of me.

The Abdominoplasty Treatment Process: A Timeline for the Procedure

To provide realistic expectations about the procedure and what it involves, we have provided a general treatment timeline. We can go over a more detailed breakdown of the procedure with you during a consultation at our San Antonio plastic surgery office. The surgery usually takes one to five hours and is performed at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital, which is just 15 minutes away from our office.

Initial Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Kopchinski will examine your midsection and determine if an abdominoplasty or other body contouring surgery is right for you and your cosmetic goals. He can show you where the incisions will be, where the belly button will be located, and what to expect on the day of the procedure.
Number one

Anesthesia

To begin the abdominoplasty procedure, anesthesia is administered to ensure your comfort at all times. We offer both general anesthesia and IV sedation, and patients typically have no memory of the surgery. We use nerve blocks to help reduce postoperative pain, as well.
Number two

Incisions

A horizontal incision is created across the lower abdomen to access the tissue underneath. If muscles along the abdominal wall need to be tightened, a second incision may be needed.
Number three

Removal and Tightening

Excess fat is carefully removed from the area. Liposuction may also be performed to get rid of unwanted pockets of fat. The skin is pulled down and any excess skin is trimmed. Our plastic surgeon will also create a new opening for the belly button. The area is then sutured into place.
Number four

Recovery

Patients will rest in a recovery room and can typically go home the same day. Once patients have fully recovered, they can expect to notice dramatic improvements in their body contours and self-esteem. With proper care, scars fade and can be easily covered by undergarments and bathing suits.

What to Expect during Recovery

Pain

Because we use a nerve block during surgery, patients should experience minimized pain and an easier recovery period. We can prescribe medication to aid in any discomfort. Swelling, bruising, and tenderness are to be expected during the first week, but this is normal and manageable.

Compression Garment

We will provide a compression garment to be worn for several weeks after your abdominoplasty. This helps your body adjust to the new contours of your midsection, keeps the blood flowing, and facilitates the healing process.

Activity

Patients will need a few weeks off from work and strenuous physical activity to heal. Side effects will improve steadily throughout the healing process. We typically encourage patients to take light, regular walks to improve blood circulation in the body.

Follow-Ups

Patients will periodically return to our San Antonio plastic surgery office for follow-up visits. These are essential because they allow us to monitor recovery and discuss any issues or concerns following the procedure. Dr. Kopchinski can also clear you for certain activities when the time is right.
