Disproportionately large breasts can cause neck and back pain as well as other physical symptoms. Many of our San Antonio, TX, patients have sought life-changing breast reduction surgery, which removes excess skin and fat while providing a more balanced figure. The cosmetic surgery can benefit both men and women. Our esteemed plastic surgeon, Dr. Bernard Kopchinski, is a member of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, San Antonio International Society of Plastic Surgery, and a number of other cosmetic surgery groups. For over 20 years, he has developed a reputation for expert and compassionate care. Patients are able to call Dr. Kopchinski's cell phone after hours after undergoing their procedure.
Benefits of Breast Reduction Surgery
Shape and proportion are two important aspects of breasts that can be lost when a woman's bust line is out of proportion with the rest of her body. Dr. Kopchinski can artfully reshape your breasts while removing excess skin and tissue. For men, breast reduction can remove the appearance of male breasts while delivering a lower chest profile that doesn’t detract from other physical features.
Women who undergo breast reduction surgery at Prestige Cosmetic Surgery can benefit from:
- Lower occurrence of back and neck pain
- A more youthful figure
- A more balanced physical profile
- Reduced nipple size that are proportional to breasts
- Boosted self-confidence
- Decreased skin irritation
- More options for form-fitting clothes
- Bras that fit more comfortably
- Less breast sagging
By working with Dr. Kopchinski, you will have the added benefit of working with a world-class plastic surgeon. Dr. Kopchinski is board-certified and regularly recognized as a top surgeon in the San Antonio region. Working with an expert physician allows our patients to expect superior cosmetic results and a lower risk for complications following surgery. Breast reduction is considered reconstructive in nature, meaning that some health insurance providers may cover part of the cost of this procedure. A member of our medical team will be glad to contact your health insurance provider for details.
Am I a Candidate for Breast Reduction?
Before your breast reduction surgery is scheduled, Dr. Kopchinski will determine if you are a candidate. The consultation and exam process may entail taking photos and measurements of your breasts. He will also be interested to hear what symptoms (back pain, neck pain, etc.) you regularly experience. If you have cosmetic goals, Dr. Kopchinski will listen carefully to those as well.
Your breast surgery consultation is a great opportunity to ask questions about the procedure. Questions about anesthesiologist fees or lab costs help ensure you are not surprised by the costs associated with this surgery. Dr. Kopchinski will also review all medications you are taking, and ensure that any medical conditions will not complicate surgery or recovery. Based on your comprehensive examination, he will determine if breast reduction or an alternative procedure is best for you.
A Look at the Procedure
Before you undergo breast reduction surgery at our San Antonio surgical facility, you will want to prepare a recovery room at your home that is stocked with water, medications, linens, gauze, and other important items that you will need while you recover. Depending on the nature of your breast reduction surgery, the procedure will be performed at an outpatient facility or you may need to stay one night at our hospital. Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia, meaning you will sleep through the surgery.

During your two- to five-hour surgery, Dr. Kopchinski will begin by making an incision in the nipple. Then, he will remove excess skin, fat, and tissue before repositioning your nipple. Toward the end of the surgery, drainage tubes may be placed. Incisions will be stitched closed before your breasts are wrapped in gauze. Patients may need to wear a surgical bra for several days following the procedure. Most patients require one to two weeks of rest following reconstructive surgery. Dr. Kopchinski will provide you with his personal cell phone number so that he is available after hours to address any of your recovery needs.
